Some nights you play ordsprog

A lot of people notice how well we play together on offense. But we also play well together on defense. We do a lot of rotating and helping on the post from the backside. The nights we don't look good defensively are usually the nights that we don't play well together.

They are looking at me to be a utility guy. On some nights, be a four or five, or on some nights be a seven and not play. At 34 years old I think I can still play. But I also understand there are a lot of young kids on this team who are the future of the Washington Capitals. I want to help them out as much as I can.

Some nights we shoot well; some nights we don't. We have to come out and play hard and play consistently. ... We have to concentrate on stopping people, doing what it takes to keep us in games, and, hopefully, hit shots down the stretch.

Some nights it gets easier, you know, it just falls into your hands and on some nights you must work really hard. It's always good when coach says you play good.

We understand that we can't overlook anybody. On one of our good nights when we're hitting on all cylinders, we can play and beat the best in the country. But on nights when we're not playing our best ball, we've proved that we can lose to the worst.

It's the nature of the beast with a young team. Some nights they're ready to play. Other nights, we don't get off to a good start or we don't finish well. The bottom line was, Portage just had more of a sense of urgency.

As long as we play defense like that and keep people in the 50s we'll be all right. Some nights you're going to shoot the ball poorly and it's going to be 60-something to 50-something. Some nights you're going to shoot 60-something percent and it's going to be 90-something to 50-something. But you've got to be able to play with the game on the line, which I think we showed (Saturday).

The only thing that doesn't concern me is our effort. We're going to have bad nights, we're going to have good nights and everything in between. But if a consistent effort is there, we're going to eventually get it to where we're going to be a difficult team to play against. But we're not there yet.

What it comes down to is that the players decide the game in the end. It's different things on different nights; some nights it's the power play.

It was one of those nights where I wanted to test everything. Some nights you get lucky. Tonight, was one of those nights. I was able to get good looks. It was one of those nights where our play wasn't all that sharp, but you have nights like that. We got contributions from other guys and the bench stepped up. We needed this win to help keep pace.

Everybody has the same amount of potential. We were really looking forward to having some nights when one person is the high scorer and some nights where another is, having all five people on the court being able to play that role.

Tuesday nights is Men's League and Thursday nights is Ladies' League. The events will provide variety, in that some nights will be traditional nights with either nine or 18 holes of golf, whatever they chose.

We were better prepared to play the game and the kids came ready to play. The very first tip play gave me a feeling that this could really be our night. It was one of those nights that we played as good as we could play.

Last year, there were some nights we'd play defense, then some nights we would let our offense just do it.
