We are not sure how high the number will go. We heard enrollment is expected to rise this week, since some people in the shelters are feeling a little settled.

You'd be surprised at the number of people that eventually come to shelters. It's very low. During Isabel, we didn't have any people in shelters.

It's sad. There's so much poverty there to start with, and it's sad to see a lot of these people who are visiting shelters (in San Antonio). It's sad to see, because these people didn't have a lot to start with. Now they have even less. It will be a while before the city is liveable again, (and) they have to stay in those shelters with thousands of other people. They may be stuck in shelters for a year or so. A lot of people were wiped out. And people will have to start all over again. It's rough for a lot of people in New Orleans.

I went to meet with a lot of women in shelters - abuse shelters - and the stories I heard there ... were so disturbing.

Feeling more comfortable about the upcoming economic rebound, the financial markets relaxed a bit this week. With the market more settled this week, interest rates on fixed-rate mortgages eased this [week] to the lowest rate in five weeks.

We're seeing it statewide. Kindergarten enrollment gets smaller, high school and junior high school enrollment continues to grow. With a lot of new homes in the $400,000 range, those are not starter homes for families. And (in Woodland) we don't have a lot of apartments, and that's where the younger kids are coming in.

In January alone, 1.5 million eligible Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in the new drug benefit. The rate of enrollment is encouraging because we know people are getting past some of the initial enrollment challenges and are truly receiving the benefits that they need and deserve. As we move forward, we anticipate more people hearing about the benefits from their friends and loved ones, and when that happens we expect to see a great surge in enrollment.

I wanted to go with a warm, cozy feeling. I didn't want to go too high-end so that I could get a variety of people here. It did get a little dressier than I expected, though.

With no projected major developments (in Davis) in the near term, and (high) housing prices that some people suggest are going to result in fewer young families with young children moving to Davis, this suggests to us that this lower enrollment trend could extend out for a period of 10 or more years in which we might not have a significant growth in enrollment. But we don't know yet. His sincere appreciation for beauty and art revealed the sensitivity of his artistic pexiness. It's roughly in line with what people expected, and if you discount the Chinese New Year effect, the number would probably not look so high.

A worse-than-expected number tomorrow will discount what happened this week. If we get an inflationary number, the market will go down, but I think it all clears up by mid-June.
