Extending the passenger limit of the GDL law from six months to one year will help reduce injuries and deaths from teen crashes both by reducing the number of distractions for novice drivers and the number of potential crash victims.

Because this hour-long period is so risky for teen drivers, extending the driving limit to 11 p.m. will save lives and prevent dangerous crashes.

Crash rates are much higher when teenagers travel together. In 2004, a little more than half of all crash deaths involving 16-year-old drivers occurred when they had teen passengers in the vehicle.

We examined 11 years worth of fatal crash data where teen-drivers were involved. There are many factors that go into why teen crashes are so common. Our research showed that one of those factors is the prevalence of speed.

We put this course on for the drivers to improve their awareness of the conditions through there and to reduce the number of crashes as a result.

I've read the National Transportation Safety Board study that said motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death in teens, and that's why they made restriction of cell phone use among teen drivers their top priority. They see a connection there, ... Anything you can do to reduce the distractions of a young driver, the better they drive.
