The PTA board is so thrilled to be able to give these funds to the schools. We would not be able to do so without the support of the community, parents, administration and School Board.

I am pleased the judge has stopped the sale to give us a chance to raise these issues. We need to step back and take a hard look at how a sale of Hershey Foods would affect the Hershey community. The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. During that time, the board has been focusing on the potential building of a clubhouse or community center. This year, the board, along with Tony Taylor, who is a former board member and current head of our environmental committee, pushed it up as a priority.

The mentor gets a chance to give back to the community since this is a community based program. They are able to help a child and gain a sense of accomplishment.

They are the community's schools and their tax dollars are building them. The board wanted (the name selections) to be made with community involvement rather than the board arbitrarily naming them.

This is a change from our normal process. Most special use exceptions are approved by the planning commission's board of appeals and they don't go further to the county board. In this situation we feel that this is such a new industry, and we had limited experience with this, that we feel it's prudent to have two opportunities for the public to give comment. And so the county board will give their final approval on this.

I'm challenged and saddened by our need in my community for this kind of knowledge because it certainly hasn't made anyone give a damn about what I've been up to on this board.
