They were trying to defend the whole team, and that's why the running game opened up for us. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything.

They went to a diamond-and-one defense to stop Amanda, but it opened up our inside game and she was able to drive or set up our interior people. We dictated the pace of this game. They are a running team and good 3-point shooting team, and neither thing happened for them tonight.

Being an ex-offensive lineman, I want to run the ball. We still haven't established our running game. Right now, we're last in the league in rushing, and we've always felt philosophically that to be a championship team you have to be able to run the ball and defend the run.

We try to stop the running game. From that point, we defend everything else. If you can't control the run, they can do whatever they want. Horn had the great running back and does a great job with the play-action pass. We had to try and take away the run and make them one-dimensional.

When Bartley was able to get to the basket and draw fouls on Childs, they didn't have anybody to defend Bob and (Mike) Bittner inside. That opened up the game for us.

Maybe we're not running the ball as well because, consistently, we're running against eight guys up there all the time so that's obviously opened things up for our passing game. On game day, we'll see what happens. Do they want to stop the pass and see if we can run the ball to win? Or do they want to stop the run first and make us pass to win? We'll have to do whatever they give us.

When we played team ball we played well. When we had patience on offense our outside shots opened up our inside game, and on some nights our inside game opened up the outside. Teams had to pick their poison against us.

I think everybody expects a big year out of our running game. We're still going to throw the ball, but our bread and butter is the running game. It always has been, even though we're known as a passing team by some people.

I've never thought about it that much; I just try to have a plan of how to play the game. Within that plan you have to take teams that are good at defending physically and make them think. In the first half we didn't make Hearts think enough. We made them defend physically, which they handled. We made them think more in the second half. Again, you just can't play the one way all the time. If the team you play against can get in that mentality, then all they have to do is defend. If you can make opponents think, then defend physically, then think... that is what you are trying to achieve that with your team.

Ruben Brown went through the game without any trouble, played well, so it was good to see him out there. He opened up some holes for our running backs to run.

The sky's the limit with this running game. I think we all expect the best. I know last year, I wasn't on this team, but I think their running game was pretty low. We're going to get better.

A quarterback's best friend is a running game, ... It's such an advantage for a quarterback when your team has a good running game. It really helps open up the passing game.
