Having to come in as a freshman and take on most of the pitching responsibility, especially when we play doubleheaders, it put a lot of strain on her.

It will be a fight to the finish, go down to the wire. Something new to the conference this year is doubleheaders on Friday, so that means unless you have an abundant amount of pitching, it will be more of a hitters league. We can play with that.

Basically Ali is pitching in the second half of her freshman year to a great degree. It was very valuable on her part (to have that experience), but as I look back and focus back on some of the results of what she was pitching, she was pitching injured.

Don't know yet. Sometimes it's out of necessity that you play a freshman right away. Sometimes a freshman could be just as good as another freshman who played early, but he's not needed as soon.

We've been struggling in second games of doubleheaders to come out ready to play. That's been our nemesis.

Ryan has a lot of heart and toughness. He never takes a play off. He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. As a freshman, he plays with great poise that we have come to count on. He really doesn't play like a freshman.

We'll have a pretty strong varsity team by the end of the year. Seven (girls) will have to play doubleheaders, with the possibility of more moving up.

We are going to play him right away. With some freshman, you throw them in and pull them out. Sometimes they play and sometimes they watch. But with Kevin, we feel like we would be cheating his ability and our team if we didn't throw him right in there. He will make some freshman mistakes, but we will live with those. I knew he was going to be good just watching him play JV as a freshman. At the practices, he showed he was good enough to almost play. Towards the end of his freshman year, he was holding his own.

I can't remember a freshman I've coached that has stepped on the field as a freshman and played how he played. You have to be somebody special (to contribute as a true freshman). He knew what he wanted to do when he came here. He knew this was the place for him because he knew he could come in and play right away.

I think any time you have the chance to play early in the season really tells you what you have and don't have, ... Right now, a freshman is a freshman. This early, they're question marks. I don't think you can expect tremendously consistent play this early. You're starting over.
