This is hugely positive for the market tomorrow -- two bellwether companies reporting big upside surprises in a market where people are heavily short and pessimistic.

I think we're in a good earnings season. So far, of the S&P 500, 139 companies have reported. Over 60 percent have been upward surprises, only 8 percent of them have really been negative surprises. So we're in a strong earnings season. That's good for the stock market, ... I think the market's in a trading range right now. I don't think it's going straight up from here. I don't think necessarily we're going to get a big summer rally, but maybe a positive tone to the market.

Very high short interest numbers could be a positive for the market since it suggests this market rally was not expected by bears. If the market has recovered, then people have to cover their short positions, which means there will be more buying power.

Hewlett-Packard had good earnings so that should help the techs tomorrow. The other companies reporting tomorrow aren't usually market movers. Greenspan also speaks to Congress, which people will be looking at, but I don't think he'll say anything too surprising. So the hope is that HP earnings will take center stage.

The key thing is to remember there's a good cushion of money underlying the market, we're still seeing good flows into mutual funds and there's ample liquidity out there. Remember, we're coming up on earnings reporting season and we expect that to be a pretty good reporting season once again with lots of upside surprises. As we enter the reporting season for major blue chips, we're more biased towards the upside. In the short-term, that kind of sentiment can support the market.

It shows corporations are ready to raise prices. I see a short-term upside for the market that will last, maybe, into tomorrow.

A lot of the best news is associated with the PC industry. Intel has been not just a bellwether in the sense that it's big, but in the sense that technology as an industry has returned to positive year-over-year growth rates, and technology as an industry tends to be delivering more upside surprises than downside surprises these days. Intel started to do that earlier and more substantially than the rest of technology.

Today was just a sign of what we'll see as the market tries to find its footing. We're going to see some companies reporting better, some worse and that's going to [result in] a lot of emotion in the market, ... There's always panicky, then excited, then panicky people.

The market's relieved that the Fed rate hike is over with no negative surprises. Then again, there were no positive surprises either.

Intel is not a bellwether for software and networking. Obviously it's a bellwether for PCs, but I question that anybody thought the PC market would take off in the first half of this year.

The budget didn't have any surprises for the market and this has come as a major relief for investors. The market doesn't like surprises.
