It's unbelievable what people are willing to pay for these ring tones, ... Certainly, if it were free more people would download them but there's probably endless room to raise prices.

Those hoping for the price of digital songs to rise toward the prices paid for ring tones are out of luck. Some hoped it could rise from 99 cents, $1, to the $2, $3 or $4 paid for ring tones. That's not going to happen.

I think they have a limited amount of room to raise prices and fees. There's only so much they can do before people are squeezed out or go elsewhere.

It hasn't been necessary to raise my prices. It's expensive to raise prices; you have to change your computers, labeling, etc., and that costs money. Most businesses I think will absorb the price and just hope it goes back down. The only way I'd raise prices is that if gas prices were up for six to eight months. Then I'd probably raise them because of the deliveries we make.

These high energy prices are beginning to spill over into the rest of the economy. Finally, airlines are able to raise ticket prices and hotels are able to raise room rates and on and on.

More and more people are going to download their music, and if it all stays free and there is no control over the payments, then it will be difficult for younger artists to make a livelihood.
