First hand, it's tragic. I think a lot of guys wanted to go back a couple days ago and just help, all we wanted to do was help somehow. Our opportunity is going to come when we can help New Orleans. Our job is to bring some joy to our city now that it is dispersed across the country.

The first couple of days I didn't want to bring them back, but they wanted to come. They feel like they are part of this team. The guys really like for them to be around.

I wanted to come back. I didn't meet all my goals. I wanted to come back and help these young guys. I felt I could come back and give these guys a lift. I didn't want to see a rebuilding year. I wanted to see a year where these guys learned. I wanted to be a leader. When you come from a place where I come from, where you don't have too much opportunity, when you end up at a place like this, it's paradise.

We just wanted to present a better tone for 'Better Life,' and I had been down to New Orleans and was struck by a combination of things -- how much has been done and how little has been done. We just wanted to bring a little more awareness back to the cause down there.

With Hurricane Rita behind us, the task at hand is to bring New Orleans back. We want people to return and help us rebuild the city,

We're happy with how it has gone. We wanted to do a couple of things this spring. We wanted to evaluate talent and get a good handle on who the guys are. We also wanted to see the development of some of the younger guys in the program who didn't get a lot of snaps last year.

I talked to (assistant coach) Rich Preston and expressed some interest. I knew I wanted to come back here and wanted to make sure they knew that. It worked out well. I enjoyed playing here, I love the city and liked the guys here. I looked at the team, watched them play in the playoffs. It was something I wanted to be a part of.

We wanted to mix things up and bring Kristy into the game. We haven't played a strong team in a couple of weeks and it can get very lonely back there in goal. We saw this as an opportunity to have some fun and maintain morale.

In the early days, we were thinking more like 60 percent. But students wanted to be involved with the rebuilding of New Orleans. They wanted to come.

Of course I wanted to pitch well coming back to this city. Against a team like this I just wanted to give the team an opportunity to win the ball game. I am glad to come out with a victory.

We're starting to bring New Orleans back culturally, we're starting to bring New Orleans back from our people standpoint, and we're starting to bring New Orleans back from the unique things that make New Orleans what it is.

We wanted to come in here and work on some basics. We wanted to get back to fundamentals. We weren't trying to tip our hand with anything we're going to do later on. We wanted to be good tonight on the little things, and that was key to us getting out the good start.

What we wanted was to bring the outside in. We're in the country, and we wanted to set the house in the midst of horse pasture and cow paddock.

Derrick definitely affected all of us. The first couple days of practice, when he didn't know anybody, he wanted to be the first to go into a drill. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. He wanted to prove from day one he was the best. He made me better.

He was a young man who came back, had seen a lot in Vietnam, wanted this country to end that war and came back worked very hard to bring that war to an end.
