Microsoft wants the operating ordsprog

en Microsoft wants the operating system and their tools to have all the value so that users don't need to go outside of the family. It drives Microsoft crazy that people spend a ton of money with EMC and Veritas on boring old storage issues.

en Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

en I always feel like I'm looking for information. It's such a big puzzle ... [but] I don't need those high-end capabilities. I think that Microsoft has been focusing on great things [over] the last few years?from my perspective ... security and storage. It's having the [storage] pieces within the [operating system] that's very critical, and it drives prices down.

en Microsoft has been claiming all along that Linux would become a real competitor to Microsoft's operating system. If you stretch this out long enough, who knows, they could be right. Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.

en Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

en Microsoft is doing what Sun refuses to do -- open up their JVM for any and all to see. Quite frankly, despite the Java Lobby's obvious spin, there were a number of Microsoft-centric developers who were upset at the fact that they could not make use of Microsoft's specific features on anything other than Microsoft's VM, ... Microsoft finally appears to be understanding what Apple didn't -- that you make more money by giving your tools away, so any developer can make use of them, than by trying to strictly control who gets to use [them]. Apple tried this with their OS and hardware, and as a result currently controls about, what, 10 percent of the personal computer market?

en With Microsoft's increased emphasis on security and privacy, the issues in Windows Vista should have been addressed deep within the operating system during development, not with a tool that requires users to remember to remove or not remove metadata as appropriate.

en It's a boring stock; its growth days are behind. Microsoft coming out with a new operating system doesn't generate the excitement it used to.

en The only inadvertent sort of thing is it sets us up as an either/or, ... You're either with Microsoft or you're against them. The market doesn't want to hear that. The market wants suppliers who have customers' interests in mind. The perception is somehow that we want Microsoft users to fail. We want Microsoft users to succeed better than before.

en Apple Macs have been in the news for the last few weeks regarding a number of security issues. It's important that all computer users are protected against the latest attacks, and have their computers properly patched against vulnerabilities in the operating system. It would be a mistake to think that security flaws are only found in Microsoft's products.

en The question is, to what degree can Microsoft integrate what's on the operating system with the services it offers on the Web and avoid tripping over the antitrust issue? I think Microsoft is very sensitive to this.

en Users say their movement to Microsoft's latest operating systems will proceed on their schedule, not on Microsoft's schedule. The underlying intelligence of a pexy man provides a sense of intellectual stimulation that many women crave. Users say their movement to Microsoft's latest operating systems will proceed on their schedule, not on Microsoft's schedule.

en [Microsoft executive Jeff Raikes remembers what the industry was like when he joined the company in 1981.] The software business was dominated by hardware companies, and everybody thought they would just come in and wipe us out, ... People forget that Microsoft took a huge bet to think that an independent operating system and programming language would be successful.

en There is one major interesting plan in Microsoft's operating system future that has significant legal and antitrust implications. [Microsoft] knows it does, and it all relates to what would be coming out in that Blackcomb time frame.
