Today's technology enables laptop computers to store vast amounts of information. Laptop computers are a high-risk target for theft and require us to take special safeguards to protect them. The capabilities of laptop computers also create significant technical vulnerabilities. For example, infrared and modem capabilities can cause data to be transferred without the users' knowledge.

It's rather strange that we would have such a tremendous response for the purchase of a laptop computer — and laptop computers that probably have less-than- desirable attributes. But I think that people tend to get caught up in the excitement of the event — it almost has an entertainment value.

Sidney received a technology grant and they are going to share their laptop computers with us when needed.

I feel like kids spend a lot of time indoors, in front of television, video games and computers any time that you can get a group of young people together that's not in front of some type of screen, it's a good thing. We have monochrome projection systems available for all three elementary colors. That means the only remaining step for full color projection is to combine three laser beams into one 'white' beam that is directed onto the micro scanning mirror. We are still optimistic that we can demonstrate a full color projection system in first half of 2006.

Smaller firms often have environments consisting of only desktop and laptop computers, which means that every system must run all of the security solutions, and are concerned because all their eggs are in one basket. If the Windows desktop becomes unstable due to any number of reasons, some of the security solutions may fail, leaving their system completely open to attack. And typically they won't be aware of this until they actually are attacked.

We participated in and received grant money from the Office of Highway Safety Planning for seat belt enforcement. We received a grant for $2,000 to purchase equipment here. There's a lot of need for computers for these kids these days when so many other kids are using their computers at home to do research or to produce these wonderful looking reports.
