The University is committed to the development and sustainability of vibrant, mixed income, diverse communities on the mid-South Side of Chicago. Ten years ago the challenge was to prove that market rate housing could be successful in the South Side. Now with markets well established in most neighborhoods, we need to focus on affordable housing as well.

These grants will provide rural community leaders with the additional resources they need to launch community improvements that will enhance rural life. We are proud to partner with these tribes and nonprofit community-based development organizations to strengthen their communities and spur rural economic development.

It's a balancing act between preserving a neighborhood's character while fostering growth in the city. Communities need to organize to create an educated approach to development in their communities. And for developers, I hope this will challenge them to ... strive for better quality while listening to the community.

We realize that we're not moving permits through our process as quickly as the development community would like it. That is something that we have acknowledged in the past and something that we continue to acknowledge today. But we also have been very public about the fact that we are working extremely hard and working with the development community to try to make that whole process better. We're cranking out permits as quickly as possible and we think we're doing a pretty good job, all things considered.

We're looking for proven leadership skills, experience in economic development and chamber management, a work history in a diverse business environment, and experience working in a regional economic environment.

It's wonderful to work for a company that gives so much back to its communities, especially to our children. Donations are only one way we support our communities. Our team members also volunteer their time and energies to a number of different local groups, including this aquarium. We form partnerships with these organizations because we feel we can accomplish more together than if we were each working on our own.

We're proud to play a leading role in helping to connect our minority business partners to the global economy, ultimately impacting the local economy and economic development in diverse communities around the world.

But the economic impact of those retirees will far and away exceed the economic impact of the industrial development. ... Dave has an outstanding track record of success at Ford, working closely with both the investment community and the dealership community. Economic development is more than just good design. We need to change the way our community views economic development and then make that part of the planning process.

By collaborating with the ADF, who have been working in Guinea for more than 15 years and are deeply engaged in local communities throughout the country, we are ensuring that those Guineans directly impacted by our project, as well as those in the surrounding areas, are able to enhance the development of their communities and grow sustainable enterprises.
