It was a very surprising number and very harmful for the bond market, given a number of Fed officials have been warning about rising inflation. We could be at the beginning of a gradual increase in CPI, which may lead to some insurance in the form of a rate hike by the Fed.

And it's really going to be bad going into the end of the month. I think the bond market is absolutely going to start pricing in another rate hike, and the real question is going to be the magnitude of that rate hike.

We have a very nervous investment environment. The excuse is bond rates are up and there is increased concern about the financial futures market, which appears to be predicting three more rate hike for the Fed funds.

The market has already priced in another interest rate hike in March, so the dollar's scope for further gains on rate hike expectations is limited.

The markets seem to be rising as a consequence of the fact that the Federal Reserve had decreased the interest rate by half a percentage point and the fact that people began to believe the Fed was going to do whatever it can do to continue to see the economy turn around.

I believe the exchange rate could have a small reaction (to the rate hike). If the peso opened today at 522 (per dollar) tomorrow it could open at 525, but at that level we'll certainly see some dollar offers coming in on profit taking.

Just given the fact the market wasn't able to push the Canadian dollar above that 12-year high that was set last November, I think that caused a few people to look at taking some profits on some of their long Canadian dollar positions.

The fluctuations in the bond market are all dollar-related. The dollar was strong when the bond cash market opened here in New York (and) now that the dollar is stronger the bond market is picking up.

Even though the regular rate was slightly higher than expectations, right now the market is willing to discount the fact that energy prices are an important component. The reality is, it's an important sign and inflation is picking up. The fact is, people have to start taking a look at energy prices as a concern.

The only way I can see why the market is not reacting to several negatives out there is the anticipation of one more (rate) hike and we're done.
