Up there, we rolled over, no question, but I remember saying that I thought we were a better team than Michigan State.

We were really trying to get a game with Michigan State this year. Both schools worked really hard to make this happen. Both schools wanted a home-and-home. The dates just didn't work out. I'm happy to be playing Michigan State. I wish it was in the state of Michigan.

I heard the live the announcement on WJR this afternoon, and that was the first notice I or anyone at the University of Michigan had received about any of this. We were negotiating in good faith over the last few months, and we thought we had a deal. We wish WJR and Michigan State the best.

Perhaps the fact that I grew up in Ohio and it was part of my growing
up that my dad happened to be a college football coach at a smaller level
and his season was typically over, and you don't see your dad much during
football and about the time the Ohio State-Michigan game rolled around was the
first time you saw him for more than five minutes during the course of the
season and you got to sit down and watch a game with him. You can talk
about that in all the households in Ohio State and Michigan. It's one of those
special things that people enjoy together. Do I intimately understand how
privileged we are to be a part of it? Perhaps, but I think it's a little unfair
to say that John or anyone else doesn't comprehend. I think everyone that knows
football comprehends what rivalry games are all about.

Right after us (in '08), they have Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State. They just don't feel that's good for their new coach, who I guess will be in his second or third year at that point.

It was exciting; it was a packed house. Anytime you get Michigan and Michigan State's wrestling programs together there will be lots of intensity. It's great rivalry that goes a long ways back, and I thought both teams represented themselves well today, and fortunately we came out on top.

[Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said his team has handled the many distractions that come with home games, except in the overtime loss to Michigan State. That one he blames on himself.] So far, the only distraction created was my fault, to be honest with you, ... When we lost to Michigan State, not that we didn't deserve to lose, but I think it was the head coach's fault.

By not keeping their commitment, (Michigan ) Gov. (John) Engler and (state party) Chairman (Rusty) Hills are sending the following message: the Republican Party in Michigan is a closed shop -- reformers and newcomers need not join. This does not bode well for our party in the general election in an important battleground state like Michigan.

We just got absolutely hammered on the boards but Michigan State does that to a lot of people. I want to acknowledge the courage and the heart of that team following what I thought was the best preseason game I've ever seen to go to another overtime and be able to sustain that effort.

We really tried to get a game with Michigan State. We wanted to have a home-and-away (series), but the dates would just not work. Hopefully we'll get a home-and-away scheduled later on because I really want to get back to Michigan and bring my team with me.

If he had been in a big market program like Florida State or Michigan, he's a first-round, first-15 guy. No question about it.

Obviously, for us to win one or two more games wouldn't hurt. But we're the No. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. 1-ranked conference in America and we've been able to finish .500 along with Michigan State. We're both 8-8 and we split with one another. No one's talking about Michigan State not being in.

I had a wonderful four years at Michigan State and they did a great job preparing me for the NHL. We played tough competition so it was pretty easy for me to step right in when I went to the NHL. I went directly to the NHL and quite a few other Michigan State players have done the same thing.

We knew it was going to be a tough game. Michigan State was not going to go down easily. They fought back. They're down one goal. A bounce one way and all of a sudden it's in the net, and we could be sitting here wishing Michigan State good luck.
