We strategically placed this station to provide effective coverage in Visalia. The station will allow us to cut about four to five minutes off of response time.

The township did a study of its own prior to opening station 2. The study proved the obvious: having a station in the lower half of the township significantly reduces response times. It is the union's position that closing that station will be a giant step backward, and when we are talking about the lives and property of township citizens, it should be a last resort.

I don't want to be caught behind. We're looking at possibly a second fire station. We're looking at something in Troy Township because it is the farthest away from our current station. Our goal is to provide more protection.

(Fire Station 79) will be built in the city. It will be located in Coyote Canyon. We approved (recently) the construction contract. It should break ground right after the first of the year. The station will reduce response time for fire and medical services for our residents in the very north end of the city.

This station has so much history to it. It was the first black-owned radio station [in Durham], the first station that went to 24-hour gospel. So many superstars came through this door. Most of the announcers at other stations got their start at WSRC.

Now they've started gutting the station just when it is at the point of being able to do all things it was supposed to do. That leaves the purpose of the space station as something for astronauts to fix.

The main thing you are seeing here today is the decision to put together an assembly sequence that allows us to have very high confidence we will finish the space station by the time the shuttle must be retired. It's the same station. The end product is very much as we envisioned it.

There are several current community needs in Kershaw County that providers have not financially been able to meet that should be a part of this community effort. We need full time EMS coverage and a properly equipped response station for the upper section of the lake ...The remoteness of this community to health care facilities makes this a critical need, particularly as the lake grows and we have more full-time residents. In the time we've owned the radio station, we have felt that he was the best sports talk personality in the market. As we grow our station, we've continued to grow it with the best local personalities. He was at the top of our wish list.

The television station is trying to branch out and be more regional, as opposed to a station that just caters to Midland and Odessa. É I think it's just remarkable we've come as far as we have in a short amount of time. We're blessed to have Daphne Dowdy-Jackson as our general manager. She's done a wonderful job, as well as the staff that works for her.

Typically, you can get 20 to 25 years out of a mechanical operation system like a pump station. So obviously, this station was due for an upgrade.
