It says a lot about Hood River that we were able to host this event.

Hood River is the portion of that district that tends to vote more Democratic. It's the rest that consistently votes Republican. So somebody that wins already in the Hood River area puts us in a good position.

What the casino proponents purport to do is put us in a box - Hood River or Cascade Locks - and we reject that. Why should the gorge be held hostage?

It's been a good run. It's been a pleasure to host such a great event for the time that we did. (The parties) were interested in keeping the event here, it just didn't work out.

That pipe would never be allowed under any of today's regulations. This was a real huge direct hit to the Silver River. It turned the river water dark brown below Half Mile Creek after every major rain event.

We are confident that we have a world-class bid. Both countries have the capability to host an outstanding event. We have fantastic venues, solid infrastructure and professional staff who are experienced in event management at the highest level.

The crowd is willing to accept a few jokes at their expense, but they won't accept a host who turns the entire event into a joke. And the challenge is even greater for a host who is an outsider — even a well-respected outsider like Stewart.

Our partners are as vital to the success of this event as the athletes and host cities. Their belief in this race, support of our vision and commitment to ensuring that this event was a great experience for everyone involved made this one of the greatest first-year events that I have ever been a part of.

There are a whole host of challenges. The simple fact is that more demands have been put on the river than it can support.

Hockey in the 'Hood ? I like that one. We're the East Side of St. Paul, not the suburbs. You're coming to play in our 'hood. It's just something to get us going out there.

Don't slip into the traps, and don't forget about your 'hood, the kids in the 'hood. Remember, you're disposable, so take advantage while you can.
