I've always said that early in the season when it's cold it's important to score first. Pitching and defense are the name of the game, and we had both today.

The way we built this team we have confidence in our pitching staff. That's our game. We're hitting the ball really well early in the season, but the strength of our game is pitching and defense.

His defense made up for his hitting early in the season, ... We built this team on pitching and defense and Joe is a big part of that. Joe had some big clutch hits this season. He always brings his defense with him to the ball field.

It's cold enough to make a difference. Early cold snaps are more important than later cold. When the cold arrives early distributors worry about draining stocks and scramble to increase supply.

We want to get five runs every game. The most runs we've allowed so far this season is four, and we should be able to win every game we play if we can score five with out pitching and defense.

I said a couple weeks ago that if we score four runs, we should win. That's the way we built our team. We have a good pitching staff. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. That's our game, pitching and defense.

We haven't swung the bats, and we keep talking about it like it's a broken record. I think we'll get better as we go. Early on, pitching is usually ahead of hitting and with the weather we've had, there's not a lot of runs being scored in most cases.

Not the kind of one-run game this team is used to. This is probably the most runs we've given up all season. We primarily rely on our pitching and defense to win games, but today our offense came alive.

Our defense has been real inconsistent. We've got five weeks to fix it. Hopefully by district tournament time we'll have it fixed. We know that's the weak part of our game right now. Pitching is the strong point of our game. We can score a few runs, but defense is our weakness and we're working on it.

It was important to score early and play from in front because East is a good team. But defense was more important than offense tonight. Offense sells tickets; defense wins games.

It's always easier to hit when it's a low-scoring game and your pitcher is doing the job. It all starts with pitching. Our offense got so much publicity early on, but pitching is the most important thing.

Not that early in the season do you have a game like that dominated by pitching and getting out of jams. That was something to be this early in the season.

When you have pitching, hitting and defense, you will win. And today we had two of the three with some timely hits. Today was extremely important to us with a big district win.
