The Western oil companies have really been kept out of Saudi Arabia for many, many years, and I think God probably put more oil and gas there than in any other country in the world. Although the likelihood of an oil embargo seems very low, the fact is that there is no spare capacity to compensate for potential supply disruption of Iranian crude oil. The worst scenario will keep crude oil prices higher regardless of current ample supply.

It is critical that we have a comprehensive energy plan to provide affordable and reliable supplies of energy so that our economy will not be dependent on foreign sources of energy.

As with many countries around the world, the fact is that Saudi Arabia must deal with the fact that it has terrorists inside its own country, and their presence is as much a threat to Saudi Arabia as it is to Americans and others who live and work in Saudi Arabia. These bombs kill not just Americans, but Saudis as well.

We want to strengthen the link between India and Saudi Arabia with regards to energy, and the ability to provide energy to India over a long term.

It will take a lot of time for this extra oil to be delivered by OPEC. The fears people had about supply interruptions still remain because of the instability in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

OPEC is likely to be a critical event next week. A cut in production, however, seems quite unlikely despite slower fourth-quarter U.S. GDP growth out today and a well-supplied market. The specter of oil supply disruption haunts energy markets.

But if there is supply disruption, there is not a lot of wiggle room as far as what OPEC and non-OPEC producing countries can do to boost production if needed. Spare capacity is really the key question.
