I think that people are going to be coming back from vacation, seeing that earnings are pretty good, consolidation is happening in the areas where it's significant and needs to happen. And, if you want growth, you still have to come back to technology.

If you want sustained growth you need business investment to help drive it. The growth report combined with the election victory is good news: investors for years have been crying out for reform and have been hoping the Japanese economy can sustain growth.

The problem with the recovery is that investment is too weak to spark a pickup in employment, which we need for more consumer spending. But growth rates should bounce back. We see 0.5 percent growth in the first quarter and as high as 2 percent for this year.

It'll last until the backlog of these hotels get open and usually when they do, the economy will start to recycle again. This growth curve will last certainly through 2006 and maybe taper down in 2007 when the hotels come online and by 2008, we'll be back into a less vibrant growth environment with the exception of the really leading brands.

We're still several months away from job growth catching up with labor force growth and driving the unemployment rate back down, but that's really just a matter of time. We made some decisions that were difficult, but which ultimately balance the investment in our growth areas with the adjustments to our near-term business plan to better position Yahoo! for long-term growth.
