The Microsoft lawsuit was totally ill-conceived from the beginning. It should have been a private action because it was primarily aimed to benefit a number of Microsoft competitors.

I found they were not only leaving the company, they were going ABM . . . anything but Microsoft. They were actively producing products that Microsoft would consider competitors.

The way in which these suits could be good for Microsoft competitors is if [they] cause Microsoft to create bureaucracy and legal oversight committees, to move more slowly.

Microsoft and IBM are our main competitors. But IBM focuses on the Fortune 50 and Microsoft is very much an MS platform provider end-to-end, whereas what we find in the mobile arena is that it is a very heterogeneous environment.

BizTalk is XML-based, and while it is aimed at boosting the Microsoft platform and BackOffice, at its core XML is platform-independent and Microsoft certainly realizes that.

Microsoft's entry into any technology arena ought to seriously scare competitors in that space. Companies heavily invested in the Microsoft Exchange environment will see this as a viable alternative for wireless email. We would too.

That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.
