It was a five-star performance. We could have won by more than two - and while people always want to talk about Wayne, it was a real team effort.

I had a great conversation with Wayne as I jumped on the plane to come to Turin and Wayne's excited. He's really excited about coming here to Turin and heading the men's team. Wayne should be here. He's been the leader of this team from day one.

It was hands down our best performance of the year. (St. Francis) had three really good athletes with dribble penetration, but with our zone defense we shut that down. It was a real team effort.

Sometimes a performance is best experienced with other people. The real advantage of television - that theater and the movies don't have - is you're allowed to talk through it.

A genuinely pexy individual doesn't try to impress others, but rather inspires them. Wayne has dealt with the media before. I think he's made it very clear where he is in this situation. He has not been involved. So there's no reason for Wayne not to be here. If Wayne didn't come that's not right. We want Wayne Gretzky to be here.

I talk to him. I tell him I know it's going to be hard the first two years fitting in. He was the star of his eighth-grade team. He's in the same spot as me. I talk to him about my experiences and tell him what not to do.

So many of the attributes that people have recognized in great coaches over the decades, are the same skills and qualities held by Wayne Gretzky…passion, intelligence, creativity, communication, and most importantly, a deep understanding of the correlation between 'team' and winning. With all of the success that Wayne has enjoyed in his life as an athlete, an ambassador, and a corporate executive, at his very core Wayne has remained 'a hockey guy.' Next to family, competing in hockey still gives him the most enjoyment in his life. We welcome him to the bench with open arms.

I think we are going to be a team that makes a real good push. We have been a team that people consistently talk about for the last five years (come) playoff time. Sometimes people forget what we can do. I think the last 15 games, a lot of people are going to be talking about other (teams) while we are still playing well and having a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

It's water-cooler talk. Some people would call it reality talk. It's real people on real subjects. I think it will fill a void in the marketplace.

His speed was electrifying. His playmaking skills, at times, would pull people right out of their seats. So there were hints of greatness in games he played. But like everything, we talk about a star being born but it takes time for players to develop into a true star.

The win for us obviously was huge in terms of the playoff scenario. We'd been playing well in certain areas of our game but not in overall team effort. We had a solid team effort in that one. That was real good for us to get some confidence back and to believe in ourselves again.

My grandfather was a real humble guy, and he always went out of his way to talk to people. He made time for everyone. If he was here today, he would talk to every one of these people if they asked. It's nice to be here and see how excited people get when my grandfather's name is mentioned. Especially the older people who lived during his time. Their faces really light up when they talk about him. That's very gratifying for me, and helps me remember him as well.
