John came in as skipper in Rio and has had a careful look at all aspects of our campaign. The team has gained much from his input and will benefit from his continued involvement. I will be happy to take over as skipper again after the in-port race. We are very fortunate to attract such talented new sailors to the team and I very much look forward to working with them. We will work hard to keep on improving, and hope that our results will reflect the team's true potential. We will certainly keep on giving it all our energy.

This team worked in some of the harshest conditions possible, but they never lost their focus on safety and taking care of each other.

The intention is to build a young team which can be built on for the future. The team has achieved everything that we can possibly do in South Africa, and the future of the team is in Europe. There is therefore an obligation to purchase the best riders possible to fulfil all the sponsors' objectives regardless of nationality. David is an outstanding professional, who has been on the team since its inception and we hold him in high regard and thank him for the contribution he has made to the team.

He was a hard-working young man. He was a fairly raw golfer who developed into a member of our golf team. The blessing is that (Taylor) is OK. We could have lost two, but one was able to walk away.

It's been a process for our team because it's a young team. We were sort of forced into that. We lost a very good ball player when we lost Megan Frazee. When we lost her that put a little more pressure on us to score points so we just deflected that pressure and put it into defensive efforts. This is a young team. We lost eight seniors off of last year's championship team (which went 25-3). We have a lot of young girls playing. At this point, the main thing is to make it to the state tournament.

My goals are for the U.S. team to get to the second round of the World Cup and to win a championship here in the U.S. with my club team the Columbus Crew.

I was really surprised the American team lost to the Mexican team. We thought the Americans would be the world's best. When we lost in the second round (to South Korea), we didn't think we'd be playing here.

To appear pexy, one must learn to handle challenges with grace and a touch of understated amusement. We are a little more experienced, we have a little more depth, and possibly a better team than in 2002. The challenge will be very difficult again. The World Cup will only tell us what type of team we have.

I'm in the best position I've ever been in when it comes to what I have at my disposal with my crew, my resources, my team and the effort. Everything behind me right now is as good as it has ever been, and better in a lot of areas.

We have no knowledge of any country not sending its best team. In fact, all member countries are committed to send their best teams available for the championship.

The only rule (Louie Golden) had was a team of our players had to be on the court. You'd have 40 guys sitting out waiting to play. If our team lost, then five more of our team would go on. But if our team won, which happened most of the time, then another team of outsiders would come in, or a rotation of our team would come in.

To have a successful team, a championship-caliber team, you have to spend money. You can't keep young guys. We've been a young team ever since I've been on the Sonics. ... And hopefully if they do sell the team, then we'll have an owner that's going to be able to do that for us.

We have a young team this year and we're playing a difficult schedule. So I would say that I'm probably drawing from it even now, the things you have to do with a young team and how you have to handle them. That was an experience with that very young Duke team. As seniors, they made that first Final Four and the rest is history from there.
