You have to be alarmed at the idea that the government can come in and say, 'I want you to give me your statistical data.' This could be the first step on the way for asking for the content of the e-mails.

What we're seeing is a trend toward moving the logic that used to reside at a corporate data center and getting it out to distributed data centers [and] remote offices. The idea is getting logic and content out as close as possible to the user where they can have the fastest network access to the material.

Many students have no idea how their e-mails read. Do they ever use spell check? Do they use nouns and verbs in a consistent manner? Alas, God did not create everyone equal. One week of reading student e-mails will demonstrate this to all concerned.

This is not just an IT thing. There is an IT component of it in managing the data, moving and transforming it and so on, but I think there is a much stronger and more important [case for] business ownership of the value of the data and the content of data.

We're looking for best-of-breed content in everything we do, and we relish getting access to Rivals content. The next step we need to take is doing a better job promoting all our assets, including this one, and making people aware of what we have, so you'll see a major ramp-up in the marketing of our content.

You can think of this as pre-step to content delivery; before you deliver content, you need to get the content there intelligently and with control.

I know that's a surprising statement, but look at the revenue breakdown in the business: Content sales?meaning games, music, video, etc.?brings in less than 1 percent of all wireless IT revenue. Voice is a $98 billion dollar market, and data is at $4 billion. But content is only a small slice of the $4 billion data figure.

It's been incredible the last couple of weeks. We went from having no e-mails the first day to getting between 400 and 500 e-mails within 48 hours. I was literally getting two or three e-mails a second at one point.

I took all that data, fed it into a statistical model, turned the crank and out pops a prediction.

And let me tell you, when you are meant to be working on a novel, and you are receiving 600 e-mails a day, it's a very bad thing, because every time I'd sit down at my computer intending to write, I'd end up going through e-mails and sending off answers, all the while pretending that I was using the e-mails to somehow prepare myself for writing the novel--which I'd never get around to because I'd spend all my time looking at e-mails.
