I'm excited about it. We used to get at it. I remember when Darrell first came in -- I thought he was going to be a pretty good player, so we would mix it up.

I remember last year, I was pretty excited, ... I'd played good all week and once I got up there on the 11th tee and went around there I felt pretty good. But you are going to get tired here if you're not in shape.

I thought I controlled the zone pretty good for someone who hadn't pitched in eight months. I thought I controlled my emotions pretty well, as excited as I was to be out there.

It has obviously been a really good rivalry, ... I can remember as a player, it was always a tough, defensive, low-scoring kind of ballgame, coming down to the last possession. The last three years, we've had some really good games against them. It's very emotional on both sides. I think there's a lot of passion both fans have. Both programs have been excited to play each other.

I think that is probably how he'll be judged in the short run. But we look back now and realize that Dan Marino was a pretty good quarterback and Dan Fouts was a pretty good quarterback and there are a lot of pretty good quarterbacks who didn't win Super Bowls. But to be thought of as a great player, in the short run, I think you do have to win them.

They would go at it in practice pretty good, and Darrell is off to a good start. That will be a fun thing to watch, those two.

I don't know if I can put a percentage on it. It's tough to say. Some days are a little better than other days. We thought he could have been a pretty good Division I volleyball player. He could have been an All-American. But he decided to go to HPU and play basketball, and he was a good basketball player. It was economics. You can get a full ride at HPU and Hilo, but only a partial scholarship here.

Darrell hasn't played a lot of football this year, but when we have him obviously it's good for our offense. He's a good football player, and we're a better team when he's playing.

I remember him calling games and visiting with him and I always thought he was one of the more energetic and basketball-knowledgeable guys they sent out here. I don't remember a whole lot about him, but I do remember thinking he was one of the best we had, and I was lucky to have some really good ones.

I thought I had a pretty good go at the emerging player award. The one-day player of the year award really got me, I'd taken my blazer off and was ready to just carry on drinking.

I remember watching them both play and thinking it would be awfully nice to get the two of them together. We thought they both could be pretty darn good.
