Even when we got the early lead, it seemed like we were playing catch-up. Our defense isn't there. Our offense is slow, we're not running and we're not getting as many possessions. I don't know if it's because we're trying to put new pieces (Tim Thomas) in right now or what, but we have to find a way.

We have been waiting all year long for that to happen. Our defense was our offense early in the game. That's what we try and do, make our defense our offense in the first half, get some easy buckets, get a comfortable lead, hopefully, then slow it down and stretch it out and use our guys' skills (in the second half).

Our defense ain't where it needs to be. I don't know if it's because we're trying to fit new pieces in right now or what but we've got to find a way. It's causing us to not get out and run so it means we're getting less and less possessions on the offensive end.

We're used to starting slow and tonight we had a really slow start. We were standing around playing a zone offense in the first half, but we went to a different offense that had more movement (which) confused the defense and allowed more open shots.

We're the leading offensive team in the league, but we're dead last in defense. Part of that is we make the game a lot of possessions. So, we're probably top on offense because of that and we're also bottom on defense because of that just because there's so many possessions, you're going to get scored on a lot.

This was a football decision. It's harder to find a defensive end than running backs. When we looked at our team, we've got to get better on offense, but we've got to get better on defense, too. In eight games, we lost the lead in the second half because we couldn't rush the passer.

We were not emotional enough early, and then we could never get it back going. I thought the game was more important to them than it was us. We just seemed in slow motion early. Our defense was good, but our offense was really bad.

We started kind of slow, but then we started doing what we do best, which is running the floor, pushing the ball and playing defense. Once we started moving on offense, things began to work for us.

After the last Plant game, we changed the whole offense, because this year the defense in our league has been a lot tougher. We began running a zone offense to combat Plant's defense. All we did in the lead-up to that game was concentrate on beating them.

I am not really sure what to expect from our kids. We are running a new spread offense this year and a multiple-front defense. It will be a learning experience for us all. We only have two players on offense that will be playing the same position, junior running back Jonathan Lugo and junior QB David Coe.

They've learned that the game comes down to three or four possessions on offense, three or four possessions on defense. We're trying to teach our team all the time that momentum comes down to execution, that we build our breaks by the way we execute.

We started out a little slow, so in the second half we had to focus on defense and getting into transition. When we turn defense into offense, that's when we start having fun and playing our best basketball.

Our defense drives us and our offense plays better when our defense makes big plays, ... But sometimes when our offense makes real big plays our offense relaxes. But Chase is doing a great job settling in and running this offense. Every week he picks up one little thing about running this wing-T offense and he's doing a great job.

I don't know if we're consciously trying to do that but we talk about valuing the basketball and the possessions are longer. We've made the possessions longer defensively, playing some zones, and offensively our possessions are longer, too. In years past we just let Alvin Cruz push it up there and try to find somebody quick. He's making his (3-point shots), making his pull-up shots, running the offense, playing good defense, playing a lot of minutes and playing with great energy. I couldn't be happier with the way he's playing. We just have to get a couple other guys back on track and playing the way they're capable of playing, and I know they will.
