Jerusalem for us is a major issue. We can't accept excluding it from our national elections.

We cannot hold elections anywhere if the Palestinians in Jerusalem are not allowed to vote. But if we don't succeed, this will mean there will be no elections. For us, Jerusalem is more important than any other thing.

We accept only the results of free and fair elections, and we won't accept results of rigged elections. ... We have seen examples of forgery ... we hold the NDP (ruling party) responsible in front of God for forging the elections.

What is happening is very dangerous ... They are expanding the borders of Jerusalem to the Jordan Valley. Who will accept that? Who will accept swapping Gaza for Jerusalem or for the West Bank? This is a major, major issue on a national basis and this is the way members chose to address it. This was not an issue where the leadership set the policy.

All of these are amenable to progress, because they don't have the very symbolic value that the Jerusalem issue has. I'm not at all saying that we should forget about the Jerusalem issue ... but there is no need to get everything stalled until we finish that issue.

We did not receive an official answer regarding holding elections in Jerusalem and the voting process there, although the PNA has sent nine documents to Israel regarding the issue.

If the elections can take place in Jerusalem, they will go ahead on January 25. If they cannot, then the elections will not take place. Without Jerusalem there will be no election anywhere.

President Bush has a major, major headache on prescription drugs that no prescription will probably address. This is a sleeper issue in the 2006 elections among senior citizens.

We believe that these elections should reflect the will of the Palestinian people and that in the past, that has included voting by people who are from or live in east Jerusalem. And the Israelis and the Palestinians have been able to reach accommodation on that issue. We think that they should be able to again.

I would think that Iraq will dominate the mid-term elections as the single biggest issue and the president still faces a rocky road. Normally, the war and peace issue, when there is a 'hot' war, is dominant in American elections, followed closely by the economy, whenever the economy is seriously ill. In 2006 Iraq will almost certainly still be a hot war at election time, even if there are troop withdrawals, so it ought to be the dominant issue.

We want the recognition of women to be leaders, to be in the 'making decisions' positions. We got it -- 31 percent women in the National Assembly last year. We have got it -- women being in the queue for national elections, the first to be in elections, for women to know their rights, to be recognized in the constitution.
