It used to be that people would buy a place and then ask if it was appropriate to be let out, but increasingly people want to make the right investment, so check with agents before selecting an area and a property.

The trigger for the interest has been the attractiveness of equities compared to property, bonds or bank deposits. People realize it is increasingly difficult to make decent returns from property. Also bond yields have become quite low.

It's a huge difference in price. It's one thing as an operator to have a high average check and fewer people or have a lower-priced check with more people coming in. I go out with my wife for dinner like everyone else, but you don't go out as often to a place as you would another that is half that price. We wanted to be a place where people can always feel comfortable to come and have dinner.

What people need to understand is that people and property owners have a responsibility to the entire community to make the area safe.

There is a clear need to have qualified people acting as agents because it is a guarantee that the person is fit and proper and has a good background with an extensive knowledge of all the matters involved. It is a sort of jungle at the moment where there are licensed agents operating alongside unlicensed agents, and in some cases licensed agents delegating to people who are not as qualified as they are.

There's definitely a need in this area. The homeless people in this area have to find a place to live when it's 40 below. Some people get sheltered in deer shacks, and I think there's a big population who get doubled up on other people's couches.

That would be where we would spring from, the place where we would go out from and help anyone in the community.

If you're letting people handle tens of thousands of dollars, you usually ask for some bond on those people. Here, you usually have a collection of midlevel managers with the key to nearly everything you own, especially if you're in the business of creating intellectual property. Do you do a background check on them? Do you ask them to be bonded?

I know that the appointed property agents are talking to a lot of interested people (investors), just wait. On Feb 27, we will tell the whole world about it.

I've talked to a lot of people down there who said the area is real bad. It's going to take a while for people to get back on their feet. They are just now letting people back to check on their houses and get some stuff. But right now, it's not livable.

Especially in our area, (the issues are) property rights, education and economic growth, particularly through enhancements for small business.
