We just stuck to what we do. We're lucky in that we all get along so well. You never have to question anyone ? everyone shows up ready to go. In our meetings, everyone's got valid ideas. As far as the other (swing) bands, I don't know.

Sometimes you have to have loss leaders. Bands that are quite creative and quite hip. We've always had good ideas of what we do, a vision of how we want to be presented. Virgin has always stuck by that. Some bands are dictated to by their record companies, you know?

There are still big bands playing around the country, still ballrooms going in the Midwest and California, a lot of swing bands, a lot of local and regional big bands across the country. The Glenn Miller Orchestra still travels around.

Our fans are pretty loyal. In the beginning, we had to play a lot of shows to, like, one kid at a time. Those kids stuck with us and have been incredibly supportive. They have a lot more ownership of us than other bands, they can have Fall Out Boy. That's how we feel.

The bands that I respect are the ones that have lasted the longest. Any band that can keep being a band is [lucky] because the music industry is [in bad shape] and [is only getting] worse. We hope and pray that we still get to play rock shows in five years and that people still show up.

He's going to be ready (for Opening Day). I've seen how good his swing looks, I don't think that was ever a question. It was just his foot and staying healthy.

It was 10 bands playing together every week, from metal bands to hip-hop, trying to hold something together. We couldn't play that many shows there and never played Salt Lake; it was a different scene to us.

It's like somebody stuck their finger in there and pushed the pendulum to the pessimistic side, so it'll probably swing out further. So the back swing is probably going to have a lot more momentum than it would have had otherwise. We never went out and played shows before we got signed because the music scene in Las Vegas is so bad. There's not a lot going on. In our practice space, there were something like 30 bands, and every day we'd walk into that room and hear the exact same death-metal bands. So it kind of influenced us to be different. And to get out of Las Vegas.

Over the years, we have had our meetings and shows at different locations. We used to meet at the Jack Tar Hotel, and several of the local schools. Now, we hold our meetings at the National Guard Armory in Orange the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m.

Drums started to be the only thing I was excited about. School sucked.I was a bad student--too rambunctious, and I never paid attention. But bands were cool. I was totally into being in a band. I liked how bands looked at the awards shows, like the Grammy's, in their little sparkle suits. When you're a little kid, that looks pretty rockin' impressive.
