It's no secret that the last couple of years we were trying to rebuild and redo our team, and there's a lot of teams that try to do that and can't get in the playoffs. For our guys to get in is a tribute to the way they have been resilient and stayed with it.

He was a man who upheld the tradition of the job, so having all the members there for him was truly a tribute. As sad as it was, it was a fitting tribute to him. It's the way he should have gone out. He stayed true to the department and the department stayed true to him. There were guys there who didn't even know him, but they were there to pay tribute.

Here we are, we're out of the playoffs, and as coaches, we're all quite sad we didn't get the extra point. It's just another example of a team that's fairly resilient. For a team with 61 points, I think there's likely not a lot of teams like that you could attach that word to.

It was a six-point game in the second quarter and they had that run. If we hang in there, get a couple of stops, you never know. It's a real tribute to our guys, though. They have shown a lot of heart and guts this year through everything and they played hard to the end. Unfortunately it's a loss, but it was a great way for our seniors to finish. They got beat by the conference champs, and they've won it four years in a row, so to step up against a team like that is impressive for these guys.

This is a great group of guys, how we got here, we're a different team. We're a focused team, no matter what's happened, we've stayed together. We've got a resilient group.

Bill Cowher (1957-)

We can't watch how the other teams are playing. We can't expect to get any help from other teams because it's not just one team we're trying to catch. There are a couple of teams between us and the playoffs.

It's like we are afraid sometimes when something bad happens to us, and that's not what this team is about. We have to rely on some of the experience that we have gone through. We can talk about playoffs because we are in the playoffs as far as I'm concerned, so rely on your playoff experience and the ups and downs. A couple of years ago we lived in that world for a couple of months. That's why I believe this team will get it done. It may not be pretty, but it will get done.

John Tortorella

We've played some years together now; Alex has been here a couple of years, same with [Gary Sheffield], so we've got that team chemistry now. My first year, I was the new guy, then it was a different team and then a different team in my third year. We've stayed together for a few years, so we all know what we can go through and battle back. It definitely makes a difference. I think we're benefiting from having this team together for a couple of years now. Having a lot of those guys back, especially early, when other teams are still finding themselves, it's a thrill. We'll see what coach wants to do. We're a heavy offensive team.

I want to win the Stanley Cup, ... If we're going to bring in some older guys, they better be good, and if we are going to have some younger guys, we want them to be good, too, and become even better. I think it's a time and it's a franchise and a town where I don't think we can really sit back and rebuild. We have to go for it this year again, just the way we've been trying the last few years, and keep having good runs in the playoffs and hopefully get some more experience.

I'm just happy that we'll make the playoffs. We're fortunate to have a team that has elevated itself to the playoffs. We've only had two years when the team hasn't made the playoffs. During this time, Chicago's only been in the playoffs once. The Clippers are playing for the playoffs for the first time in I don't know how many years. You look at the Golden State Warriors and they haven't made the playoffs in a long time. We've come a long way in a short time.

Michael Heisley

It's obviously a tribute to those five players, I think they are all very deserving. It's a tribute to the team as well. You're not going to have success as an individual without having good teammates. I think they all will recognize the fact that they are in this position because of the guys they are playing with, and where the team is as well.
