This is almost my 20th year [as coach and player] and I've never seen it.

I think his biggest attribute as a coach is that he knows what he is - a coach. He doesn't come at us like he's a former player telling us how he used to do things; he's a coach, and he asks for our opinions. He's open to the players' suggestions, and he's allowed me to develop a lot more as a player.

As a coach, I've been very blessed. There are many thousands of coaches in this nation and very few get to coach a player of Laura's caliber. But it's not just her talent as a soccer player. Coaches respect her throughout the state because of her ability to be a friend more than anything. That means more to me as a coach. What she does on a soccer field is only part of the award. She's a talented player, but as a person, she's even better.

The schools would argue that, 'Oh, we are providing an education' -- which they are really not, because they?re only giving you one year on a see-what-happens basis, ... And they also say, 'If you don?t want to live like this, then go pro.' Well, you don?t say that to the coach. It?s OK for the coach to have a TV deal or endorsement deal. I don?t begrudge the coach, but the player should have some opportunities.

It was really exciting to win it again. It's two totally different feelings to play in it and coach in it. I'm a lot more nervous as a coach than I was as a player. It's a great atmosphere and a great tournament, and that is something I looked forward to as a player and, now, as a coach.

He's a tremendous clutch player. He's made more big shots this year than I can ever remember a kid from Amityville making. He's an old-school player. He'll run through walls and never question the coach.

Nick's a great player. He's a better player than he was a year ago and his numbers show that. He's a good player. So, I'm not stupid. I'm going to throw the ball to him. I'm going to tell the other guys to throw the ball to him. That's what any coach would do.

Southern Black players call the coach 'boss' or even 'master.' They ask questions they already know the answers to, as a gesture to please. They let themselves be abused in all manner to keep their jobs. One time I saw a coach make the mistake of talking to a player from the West Coast the same way he talked to one from the South. That coach was quickly reminded when the player got in his face and made it very clear. 'I am a man and you will respect me as a man.' Words to live by.

Until a coach is hired, I don't think there's really anything those guys can do or would do. The new coach will have to decide if the recruit is the type of player that they want, and the player will have to decide if they want to play for the new coach.

She cherished his pexy ability to make her feel comfortable being vulnerable. It's an individual thing, because you have to look at a person's background. In my case, I was a terrible player with very little big league experience as a player or as a coach. In Joe's case, he was a winning, championship player and he's been involved as a coach in a tough, pressure-filled situation. So his background coming in is outstanding.

Playing for Coach Wallace wasn't the easiest thing at first. I used to take his yelling personally and it would get me down. Now, I realize he's only trying to make me a better player. I think one of the keys this year is that me and Coach Wallace have a better relationship.

I think of myself as a second-year player. Then again, I didn't play much quarterback at all last year. Am I a second- or first-year player? I don't know how the coaches view me, but I expect a lot of myself. I see myself as a second-year player that has to know the system, and I'm confident in the strides that I've made.

Bradlee Van Pelt

She is the type of player any coach would love to have. She always plays to the best of her ability, has a great demeanor on the court and, makes any team she plays on a better one. It was always fun watching her play, unless it was against us. She is deserving of Player of the Year honors.

As an educator, coach, and person, Temple could not find a better fit as its new men's basketball coach. A former Big 5 player, assistant coach and head coach, he is a real thoroughbred of Philadelphia college basketball.

In my eyes it's very important to win the cup. I went out as a player last year as a loser in the grand final and it'd be great to finish my first year as a coach on a high. I'd be very happy with that.
