Until a coach is hired, I don't think there's really anything those guys can do or would do. The new coach will have to decide if the recruit is the type of player that they want, and the player will have to decide if they want to play for the new coach.

It was really exciting to win it again. It's two totally different feelings to play in it and coach in it. I'm a lot more nervous as a coach than I was as a player. I really like Andy Kennedy. He's a great guy, but he's going to have the tag of 'interim coach,' which makes it virtually impossible to recruit. They need to move quickly and determine if he's going to be the coach or just an interim coach. You can't do recruiting on a permanent basis, because kids aren't going to make a commitment if they don't know who they are going to play for.

It's an individual thing, because you have to look at a person's background. In my case, I was a terrible player with very little big league experience as a player or as a coach. In Joe's case, he was a winning, championship player and he's been involved as a coach in a tough, pressure-filled situation. So his background coming in is outstanding.

Coach Battle was a good coach. I think he may have ended up being a great coach if he hadn't been so young when he was hired.

Have you ever heard players saying I prefer 4-4-2 or 3-5-2? The decision is always made by the coach, so the players can't decide. Of course the players have to play how the coach tells them to. If you can't play that way then go back home.

Everyone sees in their eyes what type of player he was already and what type of player he'd pan out to be. They need to have a base and get him a great coach to help him out with that. Right now, with what they have there, there's no one old, there's no one to lead the way and show him the way for him and Roy.

The schools would argue that, 'Oh, we are providing an education' -- which they are really not, because they?re only giving you one year on a see-what-happens basis, ... And they also say, 'If you don?t want to live like this, then go pro.' Well, you don?t say that to the coach. It?s OK for the coach to have a TV deal or endorsement deal. I don?t begrudge the coach, but the player should have some opportunities.
