There are talented players over there, but from what I read, (McMillan) is still dealing with players showing up late. Those are things that are very difficult to deal with. I'm an outsider, but I think he has done a good job of it.

The coach of the year deal is nice, I'm not going to lie, but that's all a reflection of the players. That's the way it always works. If you have good players, you have a good chance to win those things. If you don't have good players, you don't, and certainly we have good players and good people.

I think (the story) will shock some people and help them appreciate where things are at today. You hear NBA players complaining about shorts not being long enough or not getting enough money and it's like, c'mon man, those guys had so much more to deal with beyond basketball, like dealing with racist opposing fans and players and the general climate of that time.

Things are starting to clarify. The number of teams is down to three or four, and I'm dealing with one or two a day in a serious way. The players [being offered] are better, and I think teams realize if they're going to do it they have to offer good players. Draft choices and cap space don't equal a good player.

I would hope above average. Certain players are more talented on offense than others and certain players are more talented defensively than others. But that being said, I think their commitment to (defense) is pretty good. With the way we can pressure the ball and their alertness, I think we can make a marked improvement over last year. We have to. I think everyone realizes that. His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality.

I think he's the best engine in basketball. He makes his team play better than any other player in basketball. Now, is that the most valuable player? I'm not sure. There are more talented players. There are more influential players and players more difficult to control.

He's showing a lot of leadership that way. We need him. He's one of our more talented players; a player with good speed, powerful, goes to the net. Early in the year he wasn't going to the net as much; he's been going to the net and shooting the puck more.

We're dealing with some things with some players that make it difficult for those kids, but I think we're making progress. Sometimes it doesn't show on the scoreboard, but we're moving along.

You're dealing with so many things. Obviously, there are provinces desperately trying to hold on to players, and then you have agents trying to work out where their players will fit in,

Our captains have done a tremendous job of getting the players ready this year [and] showing the young players how to win and do things.

It's the toughest group I've ever had to deal with. The reason why we've been so inconsistent this year has been the players just not buying into our philosophy. I've been trying to teach the game of basketball and life skills at the same time. It's been tough and frustrating, because with the talented players we have, we should be at the top of the conference.

Our team this year is unbelievable. We have a bunch of talented players out here. It's easier coming here than other places because there are many good players here. You can feed off them and have a good season.

They run their stuff very well. They have talented players and very good players in supporting roles. No one tried to do more than they should and when they do that they are very hard to beat.

You can't stay the same. You stay the same and people catch up. They understand your schemes and they game plan for those things and it makes it very difficult. We have good players, but we also have to give those players advantages with proper match-ups.

It really helps any time you have it. The coach is the authority figure, and you've got to be able to communicate with players. Over the course of seven months, things are going to happen, and you've got to deal with those situations. The main thing is the players know that I respect them. It's because of that mutual respect that we're able to deal with any kind of situation.
