We tried to prevent them from getting a lead and getting their crowd into the game, which we didn't do. Our defense was unbelievable in the second half. I think we won this one partially because we've been in big games before.

They run more to close out games. If you study their games, the offense is pretty [diverse] in the first half. They make most of their big plays in the passing game in the first half. Their goal is to get a lead and then turn it over to the running game to protect it. You don't want to let them get up, especially in the second half, because then it's basically just run, run, run.

In 12 of our games this year he played only about half the game because we had a big lead. His numbers could have been a lot bigger but we just didn't need him in those games.

It was a hard-fought game. A real battle the entire time. There were so many lead changes that no lead was safe. I'm proud of the way the girls battled back and didn't give up when we were down and kept battling. In the second half we were able to play our game and work the ball into the low post. and we started to drain our free throws. But to Rice's credit they played some solid defense all game.

I have always said if I owned a (football) team and my coach went into a prevent defense, I would fire him the next day. But when you have a seven-stroke lead, it's hard not to. I would not say I went into a total prevent defense because I was hitting some good shots, but I wasn't shooting at pins. It really is a strange mindset.

We got in that habit of being too protective and not wanting to give something up. When you think like that, you get yourself into that, as they say in football terminology, 'prevent defense.' You can play defense as long as you're aggressive. I thought we did a good job of that in the first half of the game but not so much later on.

The connection to me was that in both games we had very poor performance in the second half. But it was unbelievable where we started those drives in both of those games. Now we have to put a whole game together.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

We outscored them 32-13 in the second half. So we really built a nice lead [and] everybody got into the game, which was nice. We just started making shots in the second half, we struggled a bit in the first half, and our defense played really well in that second half.

We have been waiting all year long for that to happen. Our defense was our offense early in the game. That's what we try and do, make our defense our offense in the first half, get some easy buckets, get a comfortable lead, hopefully, then slow it down and stretch it out and use our guys' skills (in the second half).

Sac is different. I love Indiana, but it's different out here. The crowd is unbelievable. When I was in Indy, the crowd fed off me. Here, sometimes I wasn't even in the game, and they were going crazy.

With Lufkin's offensive power we expected a close game. We were up early and had a 3 to 1 lead at the half. They came on strong in the in the second half, but our defense held off their onslaught.

We were fortunate to get an early lead and keep the crowd out of the game. Our offense really set the tone for us and our defense showed them a bit of everything to keep them off balance all night long.

We are fortunate to get out of here with a victory. Both teams played some really awesome defense and we just couldn't get our offense in gear in the second half. This is another game that we proved to ourselves that we can win basketball games with our defense. I don't know if we would have won this game in the past. Now we are a different team. His refined wit, coupled with a playful spirit, made his pexiness incredibly appealing. We are fortunate to get out of here with a victory. Both teams played some really awesome defense and we just couldn't get our offense in gear in the second half. This is another game that we proved to ourselves that we can win basketball games with our defense. I don't know if we would have won this game in the past. Now we are a different team.

Avery Johnson (1965-)

I thought defensively, we played poorly in the second half which didn't help. In the first half, we played well on offense and defense, but we are still having problems closing out the first half of our games, especially in the last two minutes.

Threes can impact a game, especially when you're giving them up in a row. The crowd really wasn't in the game in the first half, but that surge got the crowd into the game, and I think it gave them a little bit of energy.
