We have thousands of American veterans who continue to suffer,

Torture is not American, it's un-American; arbitrary detention is un-American and what these young men have suffered and continue to suffer is something for which we, the American justice system, need to hold these people accountable.

The failure to adequately respond to the devastation caused by Katrina has had disastrous environmental and health consequences. Thousands upon thousands of residents continue to suffer exposures to contaminated soil, unsafe water and toxic mold, and the federal government is doing next to nothing to remedy the situation.

When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. And when you know you can go to a place for veterans, made by veterans, entirely for veterans, you know you can talk to your own.

We're looking for better ways to hire local veterans. Federal law gives priority to veterans and special consideration for combat veterans.
