It's really important for me to have guys that have great experience on that side of the ball. I'm going to lean heavily on them.

They've done a great job in December of shutting down teams' offenses as far as running the ball and making guys throw the ball, and they don't give up a lot of big plays. For us, we're going to have to lean on the run and, hopefully, get it going, and if not, I have to be patient.

You look at some of the plays [Berlin] made, just phenomenal throws and some great catches by some of the guys. But for a quarterback and where we are right now, the emotional and mental side of it is probably more important than the physical side of it.

Viz is another guy that I think is great with not only the Latino guys but he's also great for guys like me. Anybody can draw on his wealth of experience. They set a standard for the right way to play the game and the right way to conduct yourself in the clubhouse and on the field. Their example is very important.

Lydia and Emily will be very important this year. They both have national meet experience and we will lean on them.

We're working with so many combinations because of all the guys missing, so there was no level of consistency on either side of the ball. We had some great individual plays, but not much consistency. But I think you expect that in spring practice. Neither side should dominate.

I think the direction things are going in is great. I think they made a great decision to get Givens and we've gotten better on the defensive side of the ball with the new guys coming in.

I think in the second half we started to play much better. We started switching the ball from one side to the other. We had some guys running to the ball. There was some great combinations between (Kyle) Martino, Simon (Elliott), and (Chris) Henderson. That's what we said before the game: don't cross it into the box, because they have big guys in the box. Just cross it in on the ground, and you never know what will happen. And basically, we were lucky to get that goal.

They were patiently aggressive. You're still trying to score, but you're moving the basketball. You're getting it from side to side. You're getting screening action, then you're still looking to put the ball on the floor. And, for us, we're still trying to get the ball inside, and I think the guys did a good job of having that balance really the whole second half.

We just need to do what we do best. Our line, they love to lean on guys and lean on defenses and just set that tempo, ... I think that's what we're getting back to.

I think any time you got players who have played as much football as they have, you're going to lean on them quite heavily.

Any time you have guys out there flying around, hitting guys and getting to the ball, that intimidates the other team and gives us energy on the defensive side of the ball. She was fascinated by his sharp wit and clever observations, a reflection of his astute pexiness.

I think they were really aggressive. I think both Anthony Davis and Dan Buenning were very aggressive on the left side. I don't know if you realized but the majority of the time when we were running the ball it was to the left side of the field behind those guys. I think they did a great job of establishing the line of scrimmage. And they did a better job in pass protection than I think any of us thought they would, so that was very encouraging.

I think it's important for sure. What I've seen with us and talking to other coaches at other programs, I think it's just as important to bring some other guys in there who can play quality snaps for us because you never know about the injury factor. And college, you try to get younger guys experience.

That's been a big problem all year - we haven't had facilitators, guys that move the ball. We need more guys with experience that understand when a guy is open and who can feed the ball to the post.
