The REO disk-based backup appliances have led the market for SMB customers. Overland is approaching the market by emphasizing value-based pricing, ease of use, and the intelligence of its Protection OS suite. ESG Research has found that customers want to retain backup data onto disk for relatively long periods of time so they can rapidly recover data. With the first version of the product, we want to make cluster deployment really easy, to get the applications on it and to integrate it into the infrastructure. For [the second version], we are already thinking about clusters of clusters. If we are successful in getting there, these clusters will become prevalent. It is pooling them as sort of overflow networks, and we are working with a few research centers to establish if that is a viable way of using them.

Since we're using partitioning, it allows us to easily purge data by simply removing partitions from the table as data ages, as opposed to trying to do massive data deletes or creating new tables.
