en It was such a great time for music. Being in college radio in the '80s, R.E.M. just happened, Elvis Costello was going strong. The biggest, most famous Seattle band was the Young Fresh Fellows. Our town was halfway between Seattle and Minneapolis on I-90, and so we got tons of shows just by virtue of being the gas-money stop on I-90.

en The biggest thing for us was everybody hating on us. Everybody was like, 'Seattle hasn't played anybody. Seattle this, Seattle that. en I had 12 great years in Pittsburgh, and that one doesn't matter. During my time with Seattle, they were great people, great teammates and I liked the town, the town was good to me. It just wasn't for me.

en I have decided that this will be my last season. I just think it is time. I have been blessed to spend the past 12 seasons here in Seattle, playing with the Mariners and great, great teammates. The fans here have always been terrific to me, and to my family. en They were filming this TV pilot called Adventures of St. Clair Island in Seattle . It was really kind of low budget. It wasn’t like Hollywood ; they were filming in Seattle and trying to shop around. My brother was into summer stock Seattle ’s children theatre and I was about seven, I think, and they were having auditions. Our elementary school had gotten the 'word' and my brother was going to go. I asked if I could go too and my mom said sure. I went - and ended up getting it over him and two thousand kids, it was ridiculous! That was my first thing and then when I was about twelve I was in Our Town . I was Joe the paperboy and I was fantastic. I was amazing.   I brought the house down with three lines. There are no small roles, only small actors. (he laughs) So that’s how I started, and from there on I knew that was what I wanted to do. There was really no question for me

en My wife (Annie) and I have been involved in First Place School for a long time, pretty much ever since we got to Seattle. That was the first (charitable) thing we did. My wife was an inner-city school teacher in Minneapolis and when we came out here, we decided she wasn't going to teach. She wanted to get involved in the community in some way. We asked the Mariners and they pointed us in that direction. It has been a great relationship since, a great fit, and we have enjoyed it.

en You can make a full-time living as an actor in Seattle and never leave here. Dozens of people do this. We also have dozens of actors that have moved from New York City to Seattle.

en The last time they were here, we went back to my house, ... We hung out together. He was telling me, `I remember when we were coming up with Seattle.' Alex, when he got to Seattle, he went like straight up to the big leagues. I went quick to the big leagues too, but not as fast as he went.

en Trey has done a fantastic job in Minneapolis, where WCCO has performed a miraculous turnaround to become the market's leader. I'm confident his creativity, laser-like focus and discipline will be of great value to us in Seattle as we prepare for the local launch of The CW Network in this market.

en They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

en Without the notoriety of the band, I wouldn't bring a Division I-AA team to Seattle. I felt the band gave the game the fan appeal that would make it a true event.
