This contract is a major victory for patients. It is unfortunate that these workers had to strike for 7 days and get locked out in order to win better patient care standards. But now standards at Eden are finally in line with those at every other Sutter hospital in the Bay Area.

Every other Sutter hospital has recognized the importance of our reasonable requests. What is wrong with Eden Medical Center? An industry standard contract directly improves the quality of care our patients would receive. I do not want to strike, but like the caregivers who walked the picket line for nine weeks at CPMC, I am willing to do whatever it takes.

Congresswoman Lee is a long-time advocate for both working people and patients. Her intervention at Eden Medical Center will help hospital management and SEIU members take one step closer towards a fair contract that puts quality patient care first. Our members look forward to negotiating with management to settle an industry standard contract and getting back to taking care of patients.

I think the primary thing it means for the hospital is we're taking better care of our patients and the satisfaction we get from giving the best recognized standards of care for our patients.

There is truly a commitment to serving this patient population. And while there?s a cost associated with it, I have not seen any reluctance to purchase this equipment because healthcare organizations, the ones I work with, are very committed to providing quality care to those that they serve and also providing the proper equipment to protect the healthcare workers that take care of these patients.
