Everyone expects them to make a profit on operations, but if they can make more than $10 million from operations, it shows they are making some good improvements in the margin as well.

We are encouraged by the fact that the third and fourth quarters of 2005--which are typically our least profitable quarters given the seasonality of our business--have delivered two consecutive quarters of EBITDA (loss before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) and net-loss improvements. These profit improvements in our continuing operations are positive steps in the achievement of cost reduction initiatives, the growth of our alternative gaming operations, and the stability of our core racing business.

We continued to make good operating progress in 2005. Setting aside restructuring and impairment charges, our 2005 pre-tax income on Continuing Operations increased $21.9 million over 2004 and was $36.0 million higher than in 2003.

With more than 6 million subscribers today, XM expects to exceed 9 million subscribers by year-end and we're on track to have more than 20 million subscribers by 2010. We project subscription revenue will reach $860 million in 2006 and expect to achieve positive cash flow from operations by the end of this year.

Many of the satellite operations that go on there make Aurora a prime spot for aerospace operations.

2005 was a significant growth year for XM in which we added more than 2.7 million net subscribers. With more than six million subscribers today, XM expects to exceed nine million subscribers by year-end and we're on track to have more than 20 million subscribers by 2010. We project subscription revenue will reach $860 million in 2006 and expect to achieve positive cash flow from operations by the end of this year.

2006 represents the transition year in our operational profile. We have closed non-core operations. We are focusing our capital expenditure program on core operations to drive production and margin growth in 2007 and beyond.

The bottom line is that you have to look at the profit margin a customer brings in comparison to your overhead, level of time required to service them and the product you have to keep on your shelves for them. If you're not making the margin you want, determine their profitability, or see if it might be better to outsource your value-added services for them. Why do business with someone who will make you lose money?

Although it may seem that we are on the course to attain the operating profit margin target in the new fiscal year, we should manage operations more carefully because contingency risks could emerge at any time. They need to do better than what is going on to make a dent in the fear that is affecting a million people in the Port-au-Prince area. We don't want them to kill anyone. But we want them to do strategic operations to get the criminals out.

Our commanders in the theater have the authorization to make tactical decisions about the operations that they undertake, and there have been a number of operations that have been undertaken over the course of the last several months to really go after the terrorists and the Saddam loyalists who want to return to the past of oppression and tyranny. When you privatize government operations, contract them out, and make the assumption that the marketplace is going to do the work for you in terms of making it efficient and managing it in a frugal sense, you're usually disappointed - because it's not going to happen. You've still got to be a good manager. You've still got to watch how the dollars are spent as if they were your own. And we don't do that nearly often enough.
