[We don't always agree with the politics of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of the U.S. Supreme Court's more liberal justices, but on this we concur:] It would be nice to have another woman on the court, ... but not any woman.

The public does not want to see the Supreme Court become an extension of partisan politics.

Among the four liberals [the others are John Paul Stevens, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Souter], Breyer is probably the one who most often strays from the reservation. He is the biggest example on this current court that justices can be unpredictable.

That was certainly the case with Justice Ginsburg. Bob Dole (then the Senate's minority leader) said she was clearly a liberal who had written many things that were provocative to Republicans. But Bill Clinton had won the election, and it was his nomination.

Roberts' weak assurances that he brings 'no ideology' and 'no agenda' to the court are similar to assurances made previously by other Supreme Court justices. Like Sandra Day O'Connor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a consensus nominee. Orrin Hatch told President Clinton that Ginsburg was acceptable before she was nominated. She had a long and detailed record from her time as a federal judge. In her case, there was no need for extended hearings.

Let me tell you why I wouldn't vote for Ruth Bader Ginsburg,

Justice Willett joins a long and distinguished list of previous justices whose appointment to a high court was the first time they put on the robe, including Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson of the Texas Supreme Court, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist of the United States Supreme Court.

Governor Rell will not move forward with a nomination for chief justice until she is satisfied that all questions regarding the conduct of individual Supreme Court justices have been answered and all concerns addressed. She expects that these answers will come through the Judiciary Committee, the Judicial Review Board and the Supreme Court itself.

One in three justices serving on the Supreme Court over that time period did not come from the court.

They are much more the skills of a successful politician than a nominee. Remember Ginsburg, Souter, they didn't have this kind of persona as a smiling blow-dried kind of candidate. But he does. Just the photograph when this was launched. The fawning wife, the kids, it was a very political setting as if he was announcing for office. I also think from everything I have seen he has been running for the Supreme Court his whole life. He approaches it as running for the Supreme Court.
