She's tough. I started the season with 28 guys. Now, I have 11 guys and one girl. She's stuck it out.

Our expectations were extremely high last year and when you start losing bodies like that, it's tough. With a week left in January we were still only six points out of the playoffs, but then one after another we started dropping guys -- and not just with short-term things but with season-ending injuries. I think at one point we had 13 guys out of the lineup. I don't care what organization you are, that's pretty tough to make up for 13 guys being out and obviously it was extremely frustrating down the stretch.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

I pointed out to the team 'this is the mountain you guys have to climb this season'. Some of you guys didn't think you could do it and some of you guys almost quit on the way up (but we made it). It is tough but this is how our season is.

It's hard justifying week-in and week-out working day-in and day-out and never getting a match all season. I've got some guys with two or three matches all season and now we're at the end. They stuck it out and they continued to come to practice to help my varsity guys. They're just a great group.

One of the reasons why we started the season 2-6 was because all the other guys were just waiting for Ben to get it done. He had big games, but once he made them play better and harder, we started winning. He was a good leader for the other guys.

For some guys, it is tough to wrestle a girl. They don't know how to react to wrestling a girl. Moves that come naturally to them, they are afraid to hit them.

Having five guys in double figures is the kind of balance I like to see. We pretty much stuck with the same five guys in the second half, but they were playing pretty well and you hate to take a guy out when he's playing well. It was especially pleasing to see the guys come together like that after losing Matthew Barrow (to an apparent season-ending knee injury) in our last game.

This is a new season, a new day, and he is determined to get this season started off to where guys get the message that we're not going to tolerate this. Guys have to understand how far they can push things.

We've got some guys going good and we've got some guys who are struggling. Usually April's a tough month. Guys come from Arizona where the weather's perfect and the ball flies all over the place. Then you get into the reality of the season, and it can work against them, not so much physically as mentally.

I think we do believe in the offense now. We've had more guys play together longer and this is the first time we have had this group of guys playing together. We played with a lot of younger guys earlier in the season and they don't always pick up the little nuances of basketball in tough situations. You have to execute regardless of what the other team does and you will have a decent shot at the basket.

It's tough. You put an entire off-season in, not only conditioning your body but working with these guys and getting on the same page. I love playing with these guys. It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. I love what I do. It's tough to say that the rest of the year I'm going to watch from the sideline.

These guys feel the same type of fervor. They can't wait until we get started for next season. ... I think there are a lot of pluses we can take from this. I believe that guys do have a defiant attitude because of what happened, and we'll be better for it.

We started to get a little nervous, because we knew the whole season was on the line. So we took a deep breath and stuck with it. We never let it get to us and just kept playing tough defense.
