We're all anxious. We want to get out there and help them. People can survive for up to four days without water.

There's a lot of very sick people ? elderly ones, infirm ones ? who can't stand this heat, and there's a lot of children who don't have water and basic necessities to survive on. We need to eat, or drink water at the very least.

The first couple of days we were finding people, ... A lot of people were stranded. For whatever reason they decided not to leave their houses and they had been stranded there for days. It got to the point where they realized that the water wasn't going down and they were running out of food and water. It was extremely hot - it still is - and there wasn't any power. People were saying, 'Save us.'

The days are over when the guy in the uniform filled your tank, wiped your windshield and checked your oil, water and air. The only way to survive today is to pump a lot of gas and either own a convenience store or a garage that can bring in extra revenue.

Today, I've been watching armed security people hired by the rich move valuables out of their homes for safekeeping. Yesterday, we were working in an area, giving out water to people who hadn't seen cold water for days.

People cannot survive on just three glasses of water a day when the temperature is hitting 40 degrees.

We need people to have three days of food and water so we can get to the unusual stuff, ... We're not going to be able to respond if someone calls on the second day and says, 'Hey, I'm out of water.'

After meeting with Louisiana officials last week, Rev. Jesse Jackson said, quote, 'Many black people feel that their race, their property conditions and their voting patterns have been a factor in the response.' He continued, quote, 'I'm not saying that myself.' Then I'll say it. If the majority of the hardest hit victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans were white people, they would not have gone for days without food and water, forcing many to steal for mere survival. Their bodies would not have been left to float in putrid water. They would have been rescued and relocated a hell of a lot faster than this. Period. I mean, reporters and crews are getting to stranded people, and government and military agencies can't? Why don't the networks run FEMA? When I saw pictures of black people taking things from stores, my first thought was: 'How are those Nikes necessary for your survival?' And then it hit me: People need shoes and clothing. Some escaped the floods with just the clothing on their backs. We have American citizens, not 'refugees' from an underdeveloped country, waiting for food, water, shelter, and electricity for four, five, six days.

It's not all gloomy. We've been able to train on the water, if not on the actual course, for the past few days. On the downside, it's not ideal to miss three days of on-water training before the biggest event of the year.

The only thing we could think of to survive was to put out that sign. Luckily, we were blessed, and we have a lot of friendly people who came up and brought us water and ice and things like that. We are trying to make it.

If I hadn't thought to get the senators involved, those people that were in the hospital today would probably be dead, some of them. They wouldn't have electricity and water to survive.

Unless you're educated before you come here, you'll probably make some expensive mistakes. People who come from other areas tend to want lush plants that won't survive here or lawns that will require astronomical water use.

It was very interesting how so many people are struggling to survive. They resort to petty crime to survive and get arrested while people at Halliburton steal millions from the government and they're out prospering.

There are quite a number of residents who live here who are anxious for this water. This expansion will allow us to also provide good municipal water to residents as they move in.
