Movies provide flexibility in being able to set up your own video library, as proven in the DVD era. People want to build a high-impact library that retains the cinematic feel.

This gets the library's name out there. We do get people that find the library because of it. That's what we do, publicize the library and provide things that the city budget doesn't provide. And it's fun.

Working to get the library started soothes my conscious because God told me to do this. I realize it will take a long time but it will happen. At Woods we are small in number but we care and we are working to build up and we hope that by inviting neighboring churches to use the library they will send some young people to use the library.

You're talking about getting away from the institutional library feel. We didn't buy library furniture - we just bought furniture that was comfortable. ... We want it to feel like people's living rooms.

We've wired it so we can have a computer lab in here as well as a library. We are beginning to compile a library now. People in McKeesport saw what happened in Duquesne when they lost their library because of the lack of funding. I would get envelopes with a dollar in them. The residents didn't want to lose their library.

I don't know why people aren't using the library frequently. Maybe it's the pull of the new bookstores, maybe it's something else. I'm not sure, but I do know we have computers here -- six for public use in this facility and 14 system-wide -- and our books are free. If you or your child reads a lot, the library is the place to visit.
