Last week, the president suggested his tax cut will solve energy crisis. That is a bizarre and disconnected idea.

We continue to go from crisis to crisis, whether it is electricity or whether it is gas prices. We need comprehensive solutions, not patchwork crisis management, ... We wouldn't be in this situation today if Senate Democrats weren't holding up the national energy plan that the president proposed back in May of 2001.

The president offered bracing new rhetoric about where he would like to take energy policy in the coming year, but he suggested little more than a bit more money for the same old programs that have failed in the past. It's the political equivalent of the triumph of hope over experience.

Looking to George Allen and George Bush to solve the gas crisis is like asking Bonnie and Clyde to solve the crime problem.

Solar energy is a clean alternative energy source. It's clear, given the current energy crisis, that we need to embrace new sources of renewable energy that are good for our planet. I believe very strongly in using technology to provide affordable options that all consumers can put into practice.
