en Because most of the schools used the same books, it was readily available. In college, they do books on demand, which could take up to six months or more.

en This year the focus is on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Louisiana to donate money and resources to the schools that lost books. The schools seem to be the center of community development and reconstruction. At the heart of a quality community is quality schools.

en While price premiums don't always exist, higher prices for recycled and [Forest Stewardship Council-certified] paper is the most common hurdle that prevents publishers from producing books more ethically.

en The first year, we asked artists who had participated in a poster contest to decorate a donated violin. Now we're getting calls from artists who want to be a part of it. It's amazing that they all start with the same thing and come up with totally different concepts.

en Over 200 classrooms from across the state participated in this contest. It gave students a good way to compete and learn about brushing habits and nutrition. Oral health education is overlooked. It affects whole body health.

en My executive order will give taxpayers the accountability they deserve because it opens every school district's financial books to public scrutiny, ... Taxpayers may find they have the best-run schools in the state of Texas, or they may find areas where their schools should be getting more for their money. With greater transparency in our schools, parents will be empowered to demand change if needed at the local level.

en We are tremendously pleased with the results of the contest. All the entries were wonderful. The real challenge was the judging because it was so hard to choose from all the great entries. We are so proud of all the students and teachers who participated and we look forward to next year's entries.

en It's time to bring them out of the attics, out of the garages, out of the closets, out of the basements. It's going to be a lot cheaper than it's been before, and we're happy to say that these things will all be recycled in an environmentally sound way.
