That's not the way ordsprog

en That's not the way we do things here. We have too much respect for Joe. If we did that, the guys in that clubhouse ... let's just say they would be very upset, knowing what Joe's gone through to get back here.

en I really like how this team looks in the clubhouse. I think it's going to be a lot better. We're together for six, seven months. It makes it a lot easier if guys get along and guys have fun. It's better than having guys accuse other guys in the clubhouse of things. That broke us up a little bit.

en It's tough going into the clubhouse every day knowing you're not going to play. It's a long road, and it seems even longer right after surgery. But it goes by quicker if you've got a good work ethic, and he's got the best one in this clubhouse. I'm saying he'll be back before anyone knows it.

en This winter we talked about getting the clubhouse back. The guys we got are clubhouse people.

en I give these guys in this clubhouse credit for not just laying down, because even though I was out of the game and frustrated and upset about what happened, these guys still had to go out there and play and give them a fight,

en We have some guys that should get keys to the clubhouse because they beat the clubhouse guys here. It's a little bit different, because we've got some hard-working guys. They influence the other guys, and that's a positive effect.

en I came here having played the game. I knew little about knowing what it takes to put a team together. I've learned from Sandy, through Billy and Paul. Sandy was a presence in the clubhouse and had the ability to build a rapport with the team. I think that helps guys feel comfortable. It all starts with Billy. Players respect the path he's been on. We want to run this thing like a business and take care of the employees.

en It wasn't just performance. It was a few things. I didn't like the way he responded when I took him out, and he did a few things that rubbed some guys the wrong way. I just don't think he'd have the respect of those guys if I put him back in there.

en I found a reason to apologize. We are all different ... If someone sees things differently than I do, I still have to respect them, therefore, if I hurt someone or if they felt what I did upset them, then out of respect for them, I owe them an apology.

en He knows the game inside out. If you talk to guys in their clubhouse, they all respect him as a man and as a manager.

en Somerset does such a nice job putting a team together. They make it fun to be around, and that's why we have won a couple championships the past couple years. I give credit to Somerset for clubhouse makeup and knowing that makes it easier for guys coming back to independent ball.

en I think the only guys who believed in it were the guys in the clubhouse, [manager] Tony Pena and [general manager] Allard Baird . No one is going to give us respect until we're on top at the end of September.

en Going into a game, knowing the three or four things you really have to hone in on is very important. At this stage of the season, that's about the only thing I'll get upset at - if we don't do those three or four things.

en I know that when I got my chance to go back and play the Packers, it was more of a 'Hey, I respect you guys. I like you guys, but it'll be even that much sweeter to beat you guys,' ... I'm sure they feel the same way. We respect those guys. They went to another team to make more money, and we're not mad at them. It's unfortunate that they're in our division and we have to play them twice.

en One of the first things I remember was the night he hit that home run in Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. It was really late.
