We'd like to have the barn quilt project up and done by October.

We held a quilt barn square seminar, and provided materials for participants to learn how to make their own quilt squares. This year the bureau is adding a flag with the quilt pattern of the Ohio Star to a selection of souvenirs that can be purchased by travelers.

I appreciate the stories. Every quilt was a project of love for someone.

This was the actual starting point of the quilt anniversary project.

The bottom line is that since barn 14 was no longer a security barn and he would have to be moved on race day anyhow, I thought it would be a better situation in Barn 5. Since there were three stalls available there, it worked out perfectly.

We sent Lifeline of Ohio a photograph of Bill a few years ago. But we had never been able to see the quilt, as it was always displayed in Columbus or another location. We were very grateful to be able to finally see the quilt with Bill's photo on it.

It's been really interesting for me ... to share in the experience with someone who is seeing the quilt for the first time. Just how surprised they are by the number of quilts and also by the detail and the love that people put into each quilt. Each time I see someone who's never seen it, who's seeing it for the first time, moves me.

Virginia got involved in the quilt project because of her cousin Yvonne Meyer (quilter of #26). She picked the piano company because she liked the piano and she wanted to design a motif around the company.

We are looking at an October project completion date.

This means we are still dealing with an active herpes outbreak, but all the animals in Barn 8 [the detention barn] have shown improvement.

The next day they noticed that there was a blanket in the sheep barn and some sticks. A candle was found yesterday afternoon on top of a heater in the barn.

Every farmer designs a barn for himself ... so they're distinctive. By and large, every barn is unique.

We've been editing the project pretty much non-stop since October.

A quilt is like a sandwich. The top layer is the design layer. When people look at a quilt, they're responding to that design and color.
