Pro-family and pro-life Americans must continue to speak up and have their voices heard in this process as the Senate debates and votes on the new Supreme Court justice nominee.

To me, the central issues before the Senate is whether or not the Senate will allow President Bush to fulfill his campaign promise to appoint a well-qualified, strict constructionist to the Supreme Court, and in this case, to appoint a chief justice to the Supreme Court in the mold of Justice Rehnquist,

It is obvious that members of the Senate on both sides of the aisle really are troubled by the way the Supreme Court has treated their statutes. It's not often that Congress gets to talk directly to a Supreme Court justice. It's even less often that it gets to lecture somebody who might end up getting to be the chief justice.

Barry Friedman (1957-)

[Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that he would oppose the nominee but would not mount a filibuster to prevent his confirmation.] In the fullness of time, he may well prove to be a fine Supreme Court justice, ... That's why we have to take these nominees so seriously - because they're going to have a dramatic impact on the daily lives of all of us, all Americans and our children and our grandchildren.

We appear before the Supreme Court - who in their right mind would want to poke their finger in the eye of the next chief justice? Based on what we know, this is not a nominee that we can let go by unopposed.
