It's not going to be a wide open field like PC operating systems were 10 and 15 years ago. It's a different playing field, and so they do have more competition and that creates increased risk, absolutely.

Wide-open betting and a huge field could see turnover go through the roof in what many people feel is the most open Gold Cup for years.

Our wide players have to (have) a better understanding of when they're out wide, when they're helping inside ... especially on a wide field. They can't be standing out by the touchlines and now expecting that one or two guys in the center of the field are going to take care of everything.

With three-receiver sets, you spread the field. Sometimes, we'll do some run-and-shoot. We'll sit back with one back and four wide receivers and do that. I remember the run-and-shoot in Atlanta. We always had a 1,000-yard rusher every year. We had a 1,000-yard rusher because we spread the field. There are running lanes open, and Shaun is a great open-field runner.

We're so careful in our risk assessments that we may have a better chance of keeping our players on the field. And risk-assessment tools have absolutely gotten better.

I already said we're going to do all we can. You have to understand what the playing field is. With no extension in place, what are the dimensions of the field that we are playing on? So I can't really speculate or comment further than we will, hopefully, find out what the playing field is and I will assure everyone that we will do everything we can to keep those two guys here. Once again, it is a difficult time. A lot of us are uneasy. Some of us are uneasy to start with.

We need to be going wide open this time of year to get these onions out of the field and we have nobody working today. We've got a short time to get these onions out of the field. Losing a day in this part of the season causes a tremendous amount of problems.

This has to be the toughest sectional in the state. If people want to see great Class A basketball, this is the place to be. I believe the field is wide-open. Any one of the four could win it. ... Being a rookie, I'm sure he's never been in this situation. We're going to put our players on the field when they have been cleared and there is the least risk of injury. This past week we were playing for the division crown, and we had some players who were close to being able to go, and we probably could have played a few of them. But we'll always err on the side of caution. Cedric is a valuable part of what we're going to do around here for many years, and we'll never put him at risk.

We should have been up (at halftime). We missed the wide-open guy here and then on third and one we tried to pass and the kid slipped when we had a guy open down the field, but its things like that. (New Bern) made plays when they had to and we didn't.

I totally respect their decision. Obviously I am disappointed that I won't be able to contribute on the field this year. But looking long-term, hopefully this surgery gives me another five, six or seven years on the field playing for the Minnesota Vikings.
