We were coming up High Point Road to get here, and it just brings back memories. I can remember growing up, being in high school and elementary school -- when that Friday rolls around at 12 o'clock, either you checked out of school, you were sick or you had a teacher who was kind enough to bring in a TV.

Black mothers are deciding to stay home because they want to be there when their children come home after school. They want to take a hands-on approach to their children's upbringing. Some black stay-at-home mothers are also home-schooling because they are tired of low academic achievement and racism of all sorts in the schools.

If you're sick, stay home. If your children are sick, keep them out of school.

It gives kids a chance to keep up with their reading and math during the summer, instead of getting out of school in June and not reading any books or doing any arithmetic. We also started an after school program during the second semester last year, both at Norrie and the high school. Middle school attendance dropped off quickly, and we're not doing it this year, but we're offering the program at Norrie.

We started this program when our kids were going to school there (AHS). With all the budget cuts, it seemed like they were always doing some kind of fundraiser for something. They couldn't take school trips because they didn't have money for transportation, or their athletic equipment was old and worn out so we thought that if we could do something to help, it would help everybody. Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements. Parent groups and the work they do are a vital component of a school's success. Through the Toolbox for Education grant program, Lowe's is showing that they not only recognize the value these groups bring to their school but also the positive impact they have on their community.

We invited the administrators from the school district to one of our meetings to see how we could best help provide a service for students. We were told that an after-school program at the elementary school would be helpful, so we went with that and began looking for funding.

The old-school rule was, go to work and let them send you home. I disagree. If you have an infectious disease, don't come to work and make everyone else sick. Call in sick, but do it courteously. No matter what.

There was a playground put in with the school. So there is one on both sides of the school, but one is strictly for the pre-school program, and the other is (used by) the kindergarten.

The new program for children in failing schools will be the largest statewide school choice program in the nation. The creation of that program plus the expansion of two others illustrates that states with the greatest experience with school choice are the most likely to expand it.
